Ash on the Water

"Ash on the Water" is a studio paintings based on a plein air painting "Smoke on the Water".

I had gone painting along the American River, in Folsom, CA. The unusual lighting and color effect is a result of the Camp Fire, November 2018. The title refers to the layer of ash that had settled on the surface of the water and as a result, there wasn't the sparkly, crisp shapes and colors that are typical when painting water.
